The Bingling Temple Grottoes, a world cultural heritage site that was temporarily closed due to the 6.2 magnitude earthquake in Jishishan, Gansu, was reopened on December 26th.

Prior to its reopening, professionalsfrom the cultural relics department in Gansu have conducted safety inspections and hidden dangers investigation on cave cultural relics, cliff plank roads, infrastructure, etc. After on-site investigation and confirmation by the working group, the statues, murals, niches and other cultural relics inside the Bingling Temple Grottoes have not been damaged. At present, the Bingling Temple Grottoes have met the opening requirements.

The Bingling Temple Grottoes are located in the Xiaojishi Mountain in the southwest of Yongjing County. It was first built in the first year of Jianhong in the Western Qin Dynasty and is famous for preserving the earliest chronological inscriptions of Chinese grottoes. There are currently 216 niches, 815 stone and clay sculptures, and about 1,000 square meters of murals. The Bingling Temple Grottoes were announced by the State Council as one of the national key cultural relics protection units in 1961. It is also one of the World Cultural Heritage Site "Silk Road: Road Network of Chang'an Tianshan Corridor.
