Co-creating a new Silk Road tapestry: 'Silk Road: Artists' Rendezvous' kicks off

"Hello, Gansu! Here we come!" With this enthusiastic greeting, the 2025 "Silk Road: Artists' Rendezvous" cultural exchange program officially commenced on Aug. 10 along the Yellow River in Lanzhou, northwest China's Gansu Province. 20 distinguished artists from China and abroad will traverse the ancient Silk Road, documenting its timeless stories and millennia-old civilization through their artistic creations.

Jointly organized by China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism and hosted by the China Academy of Art, this flagship cultural program has invited hundreds of accomplished artists from nearly 100 countries since its inception in 2009. This year's delegation comprises renowned artists from 11 nations - Mongolia, Romania, Italy, Russia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Canada, Bangladesh, Botswana, Argentina, Bulgaria, and Hungary.

The artists will embark on a creative journey through Gansu's historical treasures including Dunhuang's Mogao Caves, Zhangye's Danxia landforms, and Jiayuguan's Great Wall fortress, capturing the province's unique cultural landscape and the enduring legacy of Silk Road civilization.

Following their Gansu itinerary, the artists will convene in Hangzhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, for collaborative creative work. Their completed artworks will debut at the upcoming Dunhuang International Cultural Expo this September, presenting global audiences with fresh artistic perspectives on the Silk Road's rich heritage.
